The predicted hit of the summer is now out (and on sale here for 15% off list price!)
The Passage by Justin Cronin
First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse. As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he’s done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.
The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephanie Meyer (you didn't think she was really done with Twilight did you??) Fans of The Twilight Saga will be enthralled by this riveting story of Bree Tanner, a character first introduced in Eclipse, and the darker side of the newborn vampire world she inhabits. In another irresistible combination of danger, mystery, and romance, Stephenie Meyer tells the devastating story of Bree and the newborn army as they prepare to close in on Bella Swan and the Cullens, following their encounter to its unforgettable conclusion.(Of Course we are ALWAYS happy to recommend really good YA books to those that are Twilight fans, considering reading the series, or those tempted to let their elementary age girl read them!)
Frankly, Frannie & Doggy Day Care by AJ Stern (okay, these were on our shelves last week too)The first two books in a great early elementary series. Perfect for fans of Katie Kazoo, Just Grace, Junie B, and Judy Moody! Frannie is a spunky grade schooler with a fondness for office supplies. In the first book Frannie’s class is visiting the local radio station and the radio host is no where to be found. Should Frannie cover for him—after all, this could be her big break! But what happens when listeners call in with questions, and Frannie doesn’t know the answers? And in Doggy Day Care, When Frannie notices her aunt’s dog limping, she sees it as her big break to be a vet, so it’s off to the veterinarian’s office, where she can showcase her doggy-diagnostic skills. But in true Frannie form, all she can pull off is a doggy disaster. We'll let Franny introduce herself to you....
