What We're Reading This Week, May 31

A Weekly Feature of what we (the staff of Aaron's Books)
has on the top of our TBR (to be read) pile.

Aaron is currently reading with his mommy Harry Potter and The Order of the Phoenix.

Sam is alternating between Bamboo People and The Improper Life of Bezellia Grove, both are books that are coming out later this summer by authors coming to the store!

Todd is reading The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Shadow Bound, a paranormal fantasy coming out in July.

And since Vicky is reading books that are currently on the shelves, we'll let her tell you all about them:

Still Sucks to be Me by Kimberly Pauley (sequel to Sucks to Be Me)

Really fun little book about Mina Hamilton who is given the choice to be a vampire or not. Since her parents are, she decides to be one too – then the VRA (Vampire Relocation Agency) completely takes over her life. In public, her family “dies” in a nasty car accident, then they are rushed off to a seedy hotel to await transfer to their new home. Not only does Mina not get to say goodbye to her best friend or boyfriend, but she isn’t even allowed to attend her own funeral. So here she is, a teenager, forced to move away from everything she knows, and deal with the fact that she is now a vampire to boot. She’s not even allowed to take her favorite clothes, photos or anything from her old life. If you liked the first book, you’ll love this one. If you haven’t read the first one, you’ll still enjoy this. A hilarious must read for anyone who likes the lighter side of vampire novels.

On Writing Romance: How to Craft a Novel that Sells
by Leigh Michaels

A straight forward, easy to read, easy to understand how-to book, this is a must read for anyone even thinking about writing in the romance field. I’ve read a lot of “how to” books, and this is definitely one of the best. Her examples are clear and her explanations go into detail giving you insights into writing that few genre books do. Each chapter deals with a specific aspect of writing including conflict, characterization, revision, submission and more. This is a good book not only for the novice writer, but also the old pro who’s been around for a while. A definite must have for the professional library.

Happy Reading!
